Tenebril Incorporated Releases NetBrilliant Statement of Intent
Monday, April 3, 2000 - The legitimacy of many information-gathering and sharing applications has been called into question recently, inspired by the forms of copyright violation enabled by these tools. Tenebril Incorporated outlines its intent to honor and support, through its NetBrilliant product, the rights of copyright owners and primarily the profitability of their intellectual property.
Companies and organizations whose products are purely or partially digital are immediately threatened by the current formulation and direction of the Internet. Today, it is possible to duplicate and broadcast information freely, instantly, and anonymously. Tomorrow, this ability will still be there, no matter how hard one works against it technologically or legislatively.
But the Internet's popularity and functionality is based largely on the contributions of these companies. Without corporations spending the requisite money to produce high-quality, valuable digital information, the value of the Internet as an information source on the whole degrades commensurately. It is therefore crucial to preserve the legitimacy of information transfers on the Internet not only to protect the wide, large and invaluable industries which use information as their commodity, but also to ensure that the Internet itself remains a valuable medium for information acquisition.
Tenebril Incorporated proceeds with these two seemingly-contradictory assertions in mind: one cannot stop, or even limit, the free transfer of information over the web, but one must form the entire Internet into a legitimate marketplace where companies and organizations like the RIAA can afford to create high-quality products, and can be appropriately rewarded for those products. Tenebril intends to evolve NetBrilliant into a completely novel and all-inclusive environment, one in which both consumer and producer can be satisfied. In such a way Tenebril will ensure the legitimacy and stability of NetBrilliant's industry, that is, information acquisition.
