Security is a major concern for file sharing applications across the Internet. Please read the below section to learn about the security features NetBrilliant brings to you.
Keeping your files safe
Many people don't want to share their files. Many are worried that sensitive files will be shared by accident. NetBrilliant gives you many different levels of protection to make sure you don't share anything that you wish to keep private. First, NetBrilliant is the only application of its kind that allows you to completely turn off all file-sharing. The server portion of NetBrilliant can be turned off in the Options window; when this is done, it is impossible for anyone to download any of your files, or even see which files you have. If you have copywritten MP3's on your computer, it is illegal for you to distribute them. You should seriously consider turning off file sharing to make sure you don't break the law.
In addition to this, NetBrilliant allows you to selectively share your files. If you do share files, you must tell NetBrilliant which directory to share - it will not share any files outside that directory. If you wish to share only music, NetBrilliant allows you to do that as well. And if you never set a share directory, NetBrilliant will never share anything. So for anyone to see or download any of your files, you have to explicitly share them yourself.
Keeping your identity safe
Sometimes you don't want other people or services (such as Napster and Scour) to know who you are or anything about you. NetBrilliant is the only application which brings anonymity to file sharing. If you wish, you can have your own username on Napster, Scour and OpenNap just like in other applications, but by default, NetBrilliant gives you a fake username that changes occasionally. This means that the companies cannot track you, other users cannot track you. It also means that you cannot ever be banned from any of these services.
A smarter protocol
NetBrilliant's network architects always work with your security and safety in mind. Earlier this year, we elected not to support the Gnutella protocol because of serious security concerns. Our architects were among the first to discover a very dangerous hole in another popular file sharing protocol, and we modified NetBrilliant's connection to that network to insulate you from the problem. We have much more experience designing and implementing network file sharing protocols than other companies; whether you know it, you benefit from our experience every day. We will not include any protocol in NetBrilliant that we recognize as compromising your privacy and security in any way.
